RE:  PRI’s Public Interactive & NPR Collaborate to Aid Station Use of NPR RSS Feeds

We are delighted to announce that Public Interactive and NPR have teamed up to simplify and facilitate station use of NPR RSS feeds.

Public Interactive plans to help client and NPR Member stations better use NPR RSS feeds by integrating them directly into key products, including Public Arts™, Public NewsRoom™, and Public Platform™. Now stations will be able to easily select their preferred NPR RSS feeds along with the other great content from sources including Reuters, BBC, PRI, and the New York Times Syndicate. While the NPR RSS feeds are now available to Member stations directly, this new partnership will make it much easier for PI stations to incorporate them into their sites.

All PI clients will have access to the NPR RSS feeds within their administrative tools, however, only NPR Member stations will have access to a more robust version featuring story information, links to the story on npr.org, direct audio links (when available), and a thumbnail photo (when available). This feed also enables automated localization of NPR.org, meaning the station logo appears on the upper left corner of NPR.org.

PI clients who are not NPR members will have access to the NPR RSS feeds offered to the public, including story information and links to the story on npr.org. Unlike the member feed, it does not enable automated localization of NPR.org, and it does not include photos (NPR is unable to extend photo rights to non-members). The non-member feeds also do not include audio links which enable users to access NPR audio directly from station sites.

Both organizations hope to develop this partnership beyond the facilitation of the RSS feeds. Staff will meet in the near future to discuss how we might jointly support stations’ goals. Incorporating upcoming NPR program listings in the Public Interactive Composer program grid and collaboration around Public Action™ are possible areas for exploration.

We will let you know as soon as we have an exact date for the launch of this new Public Interactive feature.
