Employment: Infrastructure Engineer

Public Interactive (PI), a subsidiary of Public Radio International, is public broadcasting's leading integrated application service provider, creating and operating Web tools and applications serving over 160 affiliates that collectively operate over 300 public radio and television stations nationwide. Programs such as PRI's "The World" and "Car Talk" depend on Public Interactive's technology and people.

We have an immediate opening for an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Operations team. This team is responsible for maintaining, supporting and expanding our predominantly open source infrastructure and for designing, testing and building the next generation of infrastructure platform.

The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of technical experience in Linux, SQL, TCP/IP and Object-oriented programming foundations; troubleshooting complex problems in a production environment; 1-2 years of experience in a technical role as a contributing team member, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in the following are as is a plus, but not required:

  • Building and supporting the server infrastructure around J2EE applications.
  • Oracle 10g and MySQL experience.
  • Unix/Linux (Debian and SUSE preferred) server management and administration (configuration, maintenance, monitoring, support, etc).
  • Firewalls, Load Balancing, NFS, ssh, RAID.
  • Apache 2.x, Tomcat 5.x configuration, tuning and support.
  • Security administration and capacity management.
  • Perl & Shell scripting.

As the next member of the PI team you must be willing to participate in various support roles (some nights & weekends).  The ideal candidate must also have timely and reliable transportation to travel to our hosting facilities currently located in and around Somerville.
