1. Released Traffic Reporter v1.5

Traffic monitoring is vital to the improvement and growth of your website. That's why we're continually improving Traffic Reporter to make it as clear and comprehensive as possible. We released a new version, already live and available from your Portal.

Podcast download reporting is the biggest addition to Traffic Reporter. To see how many times your podcast files were downloaded, view the following report:

  • Under the Module Specific Traffic section, click on the "JukeBox" link
  • Then scroll to the Top Podcasts Section
  • Next to the name of your podcast, click "View Item Details" to see the number of downloads for individual files for each podcast episode

Also, please note that for JukeBox, "Page Views" are the total number of views of that podcast feed, and not a count of file downloads. A podcast page view includes:

  • Every time someone downloads a podcast
  • Every time someone views or loads the podcast feed URL into a browser (may or may not download a file)
  • Every time iTunes checks for a new podcast (may or may not download a file)

Additional features and upgrades include:

  • Optimized report generation for faster-loading reports
  • Simplified homepage layout and design for easier viewing
  • Shorter URL for accessing the reporting tools: http://platform.publicbroadcasting.net/xxxx/reporter (replace the 'xxxx' with your station's call letters)

2. JukeBox v1.3 Now Live

At Public Interactive, we're always upgrading our products in order to offer the latest and greatest technology for your station. A number of useful features and functions are included in our latest JukeBox release, Version 1.3. Here's what's new in v 1.3:

Better Podcast Directory Tools -- additional (national and independent) podcasts found in the directory can be managed the same way as your local podcasts, with all the same options. Now you can:

  • feature additional podcasts on the JukeBox homepage
  • search additional podcasts using JukeBox tools
  • view additional podcasts on the Categories tab
  • see more information in the popup windows

  • Tab Visibility Settings--new tool allows stations to display or hide the JukeBox tabs
  • Publish Date--we made the podcast "publish date" more accurate by setting as the date of the most recent item
  • Improved Video File Playability--we improved playability for .mov files within the Internet Explorer browser

3. Public NewsRoom Updates Coming Soon!

Public NewsRoom is the foundation of many stations' online news offerings. Later this summer, we'll start releasing some updates to NewsRoom. The additions we're making are based directly on feedback we've received from you, our stations.

The first new feature to go live will be the Priority System. Within NewsRoom, you'll be able to arrange stories in any order you choose, regardless of their publish date. You'll always be able to point visitors to the most important stories of the hour.

Additional features to follow in the future include:

  • New Templates--several new, modern templates based on cascading style sheets which will allow more flexibility in customizing NewsRoom page layouts
  • Breaking News and Alerts -- Options for local and national breaking news and an alerts area in which traffic alerts, school closings and any other timely information can be presented
  • New Section Information--the ability to add more information to the top of the Section pages. Article pages will have similar 'more info' boxes, for additional related content, such as links to web sites
  • Additional Article Formatting features--the "Add Article" tool will include a WYSIWYG HTML editor, making it easier for producers to format text, including as bold, hyperlinks, etc.
  • More Options for Adding Additional Media--you'll be able to add more than one photo for an article, as well as more than one piece of audio/video per article
  • Limited Access Accounts--set up Limited Access User Accounts allowing certain users to add stories and save drafts for review by the admin. The admin account can decide if st
  • ories published by a reporter go live immediately or only upon approval
  • Geographic Networks--stations will be able to form geographical networks to share content, and display that content in a special news section

4. Pulse Integrated Email Marketing

Pulse Email Marketing is on track for beta release later this summer. Pulse will enable stations to send automated messages based on specific parameters, managed customized recipient lists, and allow members to opt in for special customized notifications.

Once in your hands, Pulse will help you foster a more interactive, multi-layered relationship with your listeners; further enriching their lives with quality programming and information and in return, receiving more support and feedback from the listening community.

Stations will be able to preview the beta version of Pulse at the PRDMC later this month.

As we continue development, we're also working on expanding partnerships around Pulse with the goal of making it the most comprehensive product on the market. Look for an announcement later in July.

5. Public Action in Development

There's a lot of excitement around Public Action, our online community engagement and social networking application designed specifically for public broadcasters. We've got our noses to the grindstone and we're on track for a fall beta release to our partner group.

Through Public Action, stations and program producers will be able to cultivate extensive, interactive online communities based around their programming. The system will make it easy for your web visitors to create user profiles and to participate in conversations and initiate discussions, which can be highlighted on station home pages.

Come hear more about Public Action at this year's PRDMC! On Friday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m., President Debra May Hughes will present "What's New from Public Interactive: Community Engagement," outlining ways that stations can utilize new technology to enhance community engagement and cultivate interactive online communities. Stop by and say HI!
